Hello all

Having problems identifying a fish  (picture hopefully attached) I have a couple and they are breeding like loonies!! I've been able to use it as an excuse to buy a bigger tank  - which is nice, but would be interested to know what they are...?

Any ideas??

Ta very much

Thats a lovely female lyretail swordtail, male's of these fish are unable to breed as their sexual organ is misshaped how ever breeding her with a normal male will resualt is some lyretail fry from her.

:hyper: At last! Thank you all for replying - I put lyretail swordtail into google and they defineatley match :good: As I mentioned I've just bought a new tank, a trigon 190 - the tank that they are currently living in is a Bi-ube. So my question is how do I keep these fish in the new tank without a population explosion? or do most fish centres take 'excess' heathy fish for selling?? Sorry if these are ignorant questions, but very new to this..

Privately owned LFS will take fry when they're large enough sometimes. You have to call and ask. Large chain stores generally do not do this. The only way to truly control population is to get all females. All males would bother each other more so than all females.
