I am a little worried, are these things safe? I have 2 of these on a small peice of Live rock and read on another post that they could be dangerous. What do you think? Thanks in advance and I apologise for this being my first post!

Thats an aiptasia anemone. Buy Joes Juice from your LFS and squirt them with it. They may come back but if you keep after them with the juice it should eventually kill them for good. Peppermint shrimp and some butterfly fish eat them as well. Get rid of them ASAP as they reproduce quite rapidly when left alone.

Agreed, prepare for battle

They arent dangerous in the manner that they will cause you harm. They wil sting corals and fish however and the reproductive rate of these anenomes is astounding. You h ave 2 now but within a month you could have 10

Thanks for the fast responses. I have taken car of the little blighters! I took the rock out and then dripped some vinegar on them. Left it for 5 minutes and then rinsed and placed the rock in saltwater in a bucket. I will put the rock back in the tank in the morning.

Worth getting some Joe's Juice on order anyway, you've found one, chances are you'll find another.

Are there any UK places you can point me to?
I am quite confident that I have caught it quickly the tank is only 5 weeks old and that particular rock had only been there a week so fingers crossed.
I must say though, after having a tropical tank for 4 years and now having marine is much better. I sit and stare at the inhabitants for ages!

That's what I thought, but one still pops up every now and again, not forgetting that some could find their way in on coral frags etc.

I got mine from Maidenhead Aquatics Online, but can't see in on their site now. :X

Most shops in the UK sell it.
Joes juice is an excellant product but if you cannot find this then there is also Elimaiptasia (Er i think its called this).

Slighty different in the way you apply this product but it wells very well also.

Ouch, good luck with that aptasia man. I use Joes Juice as well, works pretty good. Just follow the directions really closely.
