they look like Synodontis eupterus to me but i dont know if thats right

Can someone ID this please?
It's about 3" long

First one looks pretty much like Synodontis eupterus, slightly different to mine though, possibly a hybrid or another very similar species (Synos are very diverse).

Second fish is Platydoras costatus.

I'd say Synodontis eupterus and Platydoras armatulus (P.costatus has been used in error for many years).

Aye, but what you have is in fact Platydoras armatulus. Apparently the vast majority, if not all, of the Platydoras costatus images on google are actually Platydoras armatulus .

1st one is most likely Synodontis eupterus - almost dead on for mine, but the body should be a bit more streamlined... These seem to be shaped slightly different, perhaps a hybrid with another cat from the rifts...
