Yeha they aren't great but its been hard to get a decent pic, as its very camera shy.

the marks are sorta mid section, there was a sharp bit of bog wood, on the base of a large peice, which is made a cave in. I have now sawn that off, so the wood sits flat on the glass.

Here is a better image of the damaged, I managed to get thefish out the tank, just long enough to get this photo.

sorry only got this one, didn't want it outta the water too long.

Could it be damage from the synodontis? as I have seen it whizzing away from it, and the synodotis following and nudging it out of its hiding hole? the synodontis is twice the size of the platydoras BUT it is also in with a bichir, a clown loach and an adult albino tiger barb, but it doesn't bother them at all?

It certainly looks as though the Syno has been giving it a hard time, Synodontis have small rasp like teeth in the mouth which they use for scraping algea and small organisms off of rocks and plants but they can also use them to good effect against other fishes which invade their territory.

Yeh i would second this.
I had a Royal plec with a Harlequin shark which has similar teeth to Synos, and the marks on the Royal before he died looked exactly like the marks on your P. costatus.

I've read that synodontis actually like to eat the slime coat of other fish and in oding so will cause scars such as yours. However, I don't think Ammonia burn is completely out of the question. What is your tanks stats?
