My female Sunset Platy is preagnant. Today I noticed her at the bottom of the tank and I put her in the hospital tank. She's not looking too good. She's sitting on the bottom and looking pretty weak. I don't know if she's sick, or if she's having babies. I put her in a hospital tank and gave her aquarium salt and a mashed pea. I also added just a tiny piece of maradell. Also, I noticed a fungus like thing on her fin, and to me her gills looked enlarged, but maybe I'm seeing things. If anyone knows whats wrong please tell me, shes one of my favorites and I don't want to loose her!!

You sure she's pregnant but not having dropsy? Have you tested the water? But I'm afraid to say that staying on the bottom is not a good sign ...

My platies have given birth many times....they got very moody a few days before and spent a lot of time at the bottom. If you have been watching her a lot you are probably seeing things....not imagining, but when I look at my fish lots Is ee all sorts of things then the BF comes a long and says "theres nothing wrong with them"....like when you think somethinga wrong and you look for bad things (you know what I mean) and you will see them even if they don't exist!!

The other thing I have noticed is that just before she will give birth a red mucousy plug will come out of her vent...I have noticed this with all my female platys when they have fry (and have been told it is normal).

Good luck with you fry!!!
