Hi

Some of you may have read my post about my platys being sick.
But I have a problem I can't solve.
One of the platy seems to not be eating. She tries to eat a little but spits the food out every time. She also is not very active and I see her lying on the gravel some of the time. Where as my other platy who also is sick is very much active and eats. Total opposites.
I know how to treat them for there sickness, (which Alien Anna was able to help me find out that they have a fungal disease, thank you alien anna !)

However, what can I do about the on fish that is not eating? This fish doesn't seem as active as when I first got her which was about a month ago. Sometimes it seems like she swims on a slight angle also. (I don't know if this information will help, but, this particular fish I thought was pregnant. She had black dots shown through her skin, but now, the dots don't seem as prominant. )

thank in advance!

Has it recovered from fungi?? IF not try feeding it live-foods. This will certainly make it eat.

Hi Kossy

I did not treat the fish yet for fungus. I am going to get a treatment today for her.
She seems to be getting worse as far as behavior. She didn't even attempt to eat. I do have aquarium salt in the water and I put the heater up to about 80 degrees yesterday.

Thank you for the tip about the live food though! Does it have to be alive or can it be frozen? what about frozed bloodworms?

try adding some oxygen to the water by adding an airstone attached to an air pump as water at 80'f and with added salt will contain less dissolved oxygen.

Your platy could be suffering from an internal bacterial infection which can be treated with Anti-internal bacteria by Interpet i think its number 9. Has your platy had a batch of babies lately?

What about water, ammonia, nitrite, ph and nitrates etc. could you post the levels of these so i can help you abit better.

Hi Bigfish,

I do have an airstone. My platy did have babies about 4 weeks ago. I added Melafix to the water 2 days ago. I will test the water and post the levels of the chemicals afterwards. I have been doing daily water changes because the level of the ammonia was high. (My tank is still cycling). Well, I stopped the water changes since I added the Melafix to the tank.
The other platy in the tank seems fine and eats with no problem so I don't think it is the water. Then again, I could be wrong.

Quick update:

Okay, I figured out what part of the problem was. About a half hour ago, I noticed 2 fry swimming in the tank ! My platy gave birth just over a month ago ! I was able to save 1 at that time. Now I have 3.
