In my well established tank, 2 of my plates got very skinny and died. Water parameters very good, other fish are fine.
I'm guessing a parasitic disease but what type?

Most probably worms or protazoa

How long did it take them to get skinny?
What was their poop like?
Did they eat well or not as much as normal?

The following link has info on treating fish for intestinal worms and internal protozoan infections.

Are parasites of this nature common in Platy and other live bearers?

Virtually all common livebearers coming from Asian fish farms have intestinal worms. It's pretty much a guarantee that if the fish came from Indonesia or somewhere around there, they have worms.

Internal protozoan infections are much less common but still occur.

External protozoan and external bacterial infections are also very common on fish coming from Asian fish farms, but these diseases normally kill the fish within days and show clear symptoms.

External protozoan infections will appear as cream, white or grey patches on part or parts of the body.

External bacterial infections show up as red areas on the skin and fins.
