I have 3 platys in my 10 gal tank. A male red wag tail (Sonny), a femlae silver MM (Cher) & a female small (dwarf? she isn't getting any bigger) sunburst names Speck. Sonny & Cher are inseperable & Cher is about to drop her 2nd batch of fry in a week or so.
My problem is this. Sonny started chasing Speck all over the tank about a week after we got them, I think in an attempt to mate with her. Speck was having no parts of it! So now, he chases her away when I feed them & she sort of has to hang at the bottom of the tank & get whatever food falls to the bottom. If she gets anywhere near him, he nips at her & chases her away! I feel AWFUL for her. She has taken to hiding in the rocks in the tank or in the plants & is always by herself, away from wherever the other 2 are hanging out.
I get so damn pissed off at Sonny when he bullys her & it makes me feel so sad for Speck. Is this normal for him to take to one female & not the other? He is so gentle & sweet with Cher (the preggers one) but so mean to Speck. Do you guys think that the solution is to add another platy to the tank to make it an even 4? Should I get another female or a male? I am not sure I want her to breed too, but will add whatever sex fish that will make her happy again.
Thanks!
