Does anyone have any ideas why my platty has become aggressive? It has been chasing and nippinng at the other platty. Actually nipped part of the tail fin off. They used to get along great. I was wondering if it is just settinng up a pecking order.

When I bought them I told lfs I wanted a male and a female. However I could have gotten 2 males or 2 females. Is there a site I can go to or could you explain the difference? Then I could get back to you.

Thanks.

The females have a triangular last fin on their bellies, the males have a long thin "gonopodium" which points straight backwards. It is hard to explain without pictures but it is obvious to see in reality.

Good luck!

they should be in trios minimum 1m, 2f. They are happiest this way.

Yeah 1 male to 2 female is best, if the anal fin mattches the nop fin i.e. it fans out, it is a female, if it looks like a 'spike' pointing backwards its a male...thats the best i can describe it lol
