I am a new tank owner (11yrs) and put my first fish (2 female Red Platties & 1 male) in my tank on Sunday last week. The shop owner said that they might be pregnat and one was.

I looked in last night and found one fry, as I do not have a breeding net yet I prayed that the little baby would survive!!

This morning I have found the little one again and now the Mother fish is hiding in the boat I have on the tank bottom.

She is feeding fine but just wondered is this normal??

I am going to go and get a breeding net today and now the other female is looking pregnant too!!

Although I have read a few books I am a total beginner and need a little advice.

Thanks

George

Wht not introduce youself in the newbie section?

I imagine that gving birth can be very stressful for them. As long as she's eating and loooking OK I dont think I'd worry too much. She's probably just taking some "me time".

Oh, and :hi: to the forum. :)

I agree with sunflower. My platy gave birth over night last night and is in a cave with the corys today, keeping away from the rough-and-tumble of the tank! As long as she is eating and looking good she should be fine.

Thanks for the warm welcome !!!!

I have now been to the fish shop and got a breeding trap for my fry (3) it took me ages to catch the little monkeys!!

I have just bought a pair of guppies the female is pregnant, so am hoping for another load of fry's.

Thanks

GEORGE
