ok may be an odd quesh but how do they mate ?
my male has been chasing the female all night.
A few times whilst close to her his gonopodium seems to point forward and he uses a fin to 'waft' the water...
was that his attempt at mating?

YES!! If you ever catch him with his gonopodium in the female, then you should probably expect platy fry in 1 month.

this gonopodium is the male sex organ in some livebeares.Instead of having an anal fin like females,males have a gonopodium.
So ,location is right before the male anus.
