my platie just started giving birth! my friend looked in the tank and saw a baby fish... we can see more poking out of her... how long is this process supposed to take? i don't really have the means to take care of any more fish, so i'm going to let nature take it's course, but is there any chance really that any will survive? how many fry do platties usually give birth to?

and she keeps swimming up and down... i've noticed her doing this since last night. any correlation to her giving birth? just curious.

thanks in advance!

 Congrats! for the fry!
Anyways, I think the fish can survive unless you got some evil fish in there!!!
But the chances are they won't survive  !!!!!! why dodn't you just catch them and put them in a small jar!! and buy a breeding net later!! post some replies i will be checking it out to see how did do!!!!Good luck!!! :)

Don't put them in a jar.

Get a net breeder and put them in there. you can put the breeder in the tank so the water circulates.

You could also add some plants and hiding places. the fry would be just fine if you did that.

It might take a few hours to a day or so, but it's probably alraedy over by now.

Good luck.:D

CONGATULATIONS!!! on the palty fry , my mollie is doign the same behavior ( swiming up and down ) she should soon start haveing ehr fry , but yah buy a net breeder nto a plastic one ( they seem to cost more and are not as good as nets)
and to feed the fry buy some brime shrimp at the pet store when u go to get the net and if u cant get it immeaditly then take soem flakes that u have and put it in a ziploc bag and pulverize it till its a fine powder then the fry could eat that but i suggest the brime shrimp. good luck on the babies ;) ( im kinda gealou si want my molly to have birth) :D

Why you'd rather have 75% of them eaten, but at least they had a circulation in water!!! I am sharing my own experiences ! ! ! OMG!!!!!!!!! :grr:
