hi, iv recently bought two fishtanks from ebay (for 99p). id say there around 3 or 4 foot long and dont have any hoods or anything. so id like to make my own hoods and stand. i already have a fluval roma and could make a stand the same as that so would like the hood to match aswell. so was wondering if anybody else had made a plastic lid or had any ideas on making one,
thanks

Working with Plastics is a bit of a nightmare and requires some rather special tools. Far easier to work with wood and its readily available.

I have a small tank without a hood and i used a piece of guttering to hold my light above it. Just a thought, lol.

guttering is a cool idea, and if you want to ramp the lighting up you can put a deflector in there using tinfoil :)

thanks mint, thats a really good idea think i may do the same with white square guttering, i no it wont match my other tanks but will look good i think. shouldnt be hard for me to get hold of either as im a drainage engineer

If you use white guttering you wont need to fit a reflector, I love that idea, I might implement it myself.

Good point. I'm tight though and already had the black. Lol. It's not my idea, I pinched it from another member off of here.

I may paint it silver as the rest of the trim on the tank is silver.

i made a reflector using black guttering with the tinfoil on the inside. The tank was in a cabinet and i used some small chain screwed to the shelf above to hold the reflector above the tank. so it hovered
