Its the prefilters to the can or wetdry that do a huge portion of the work. The sponge pulls out the huge poo which you dont want to get to the can or wet dry...crazie.eddie said:EEEK! A box filter on a 75 gallon tank?!?! You must did a lot of frequent water changes/gravel cleaning. Something that large and with messy fish, I would stick with either a canister filter or wet/Dry filter.
They were large, probably 4x6 inch, and I had 4 of them. Gotta remember this was about 12 years ago, I was 13-14 years old, and they worked for the money I had. I tried a using a cannister that was used for my parents goldfish pond, but the big guys had a knack for knocking the intake tube off at the top of the tank, so that was a lost cause. Also tried a couple big sponge filters, but they tried to eat them, came home to a bunch of pieces of sponge floating around in the tank. I only had about 1/2 inch of gravel in the bottom and did do frequent cleanings (what else do you have to do when your 13? LOL). I ended up selling the tank and fish back to the guy I bought them from after about a year of having it (of course for a loss of money!)crazie.eddie said:EEEK! A box filter on a 75 gallon tank?!?!
