I have seen these advertised on ebay 2 different kinds,

and

My question is are these actually worth getting?
Will the help a nano system?

The only reason I can think of NOT to get them is space and that tends to be in short supply in a nano.

If you do get the mangroves, buy the fully acclimated ones. Some come to you from FW sources, and waste away in our SW aquariums. I plan to have some someday. They probably wouldnt have a tremendous effect on a nano to be honest. Not unless you coupled multiples of them them with a deep sand bed in an external sump/refugium.

In general, mangroves are NOT the great 'denitrators' as thought. Certainly, they are attractive and if this is a desire for you, you can set it up. In my experience, you just can't beat cheato as way to decrease your nitrates. SH
