Hello fish people...I haven't taken any pics of my tank in a while and I thoguht I'd take these to demonstrate that it's possible to have lots of plants without bothering to upgrade your lighting. It limits your choice of plants, I admit, but I think it looks decent enough. ;)

I just went on a pruning spree and cut out like four big handfuls of plant. This is what's left.

The pics didn't come out too good though :( They're way fuzzier than normal, I don't know why, and I can't be bothered messing around with them cos I'm busy. ;) The big white glowing thing at the top is just some floating hygrophila. Here are some fish:

(Edited to add the actual file!)

Ohhh lovely tank...I love all the plants  How many watts do you have? What are the names of the plants you have? I want to get some plants for my tanks that only require low light :)

thats a great looking tank, like the pebbles and the path through the centre, very neat!

Ta :) It has 1wpg....I don't know what kind of bulb or any of that fancy stuff. ;) Here is a lame diagram of which plants there are. Everythign is growing well except the swords and the java fern.

Cluttery,

can you tell me more about your tank dimensions and lighting, is it a Juwel?

Looks very nice, how long has it been running?

I suppose it is 1.2wpg if using US galls? Still low by the general standard given.

water quality will always play a part. I have a little 1.5g with 7 watts of lighting. Even though it is high wpg, 7w should be no where near enough light for anything but moss, anubias, and ferns-- yet the hygrophila I stuck in there seems to be ok, and the micranthemum micranthemoides is making itself a weed and way overgrowing the height of the tank. If the plants like the water quality, get themselves established, then they might be able to do well even with inadequite lighting. There's a question of luck.

cd-- it's looking really good. :) I'd move that anubias onto the wood-- that type of plant really ought to get the chance to attach itself to some kind of surface.

It's 24"x12"x12", I don't think it's a juwel but I can't remember. It doesn't say Juwel anywhere on it...? and it has a 15W light over 15 US gallons....

It's been running about three years (i forget exactly how long) but I only started planting it properly around march this year.

tear-scar - which anubias, or did you mean both? I might do that actually cos neither of them are staying rooted too well. :/

Hi,

it probably isnt a Juwel then, its just they are so popular now in the uk.

Tieing the Anubias to bog wood or even stones is a good idea. Same as for Java ferns. I believe the rhizomes of the later will likley rot if buried in substrate and maybe also for Anubias.
