Can these plants grow in a 2.5 gallon tank with 11 newborn guppies excellent filteration and a 15w incidescent bulb: hornwort, vals, crypts

Thanks

Austin

Incandescent bulbs are not optimal for growing plants. They don't emit the right colour that the plants need to photosynthasize. You can always try. The amount of plants that you'll use in a 2.5 wont cost you a fortune, so if you lose them it wont have broken the bank.

Ideally you want flourescent bulbs, with a Kelvin rating between 6000 and about 65-6700K

Hornwort will grow just about anywhere, in my experience, its very hardy, just throw a little in the top of the tank, and your guppy fry will love using it for a place to hide.

If you are gonna get vals, get the american or italian strains, the strain thats often sold as jungle vallisnera grows to be 4-6 feet long in time, and you would not want this in your little 2.5 gal unless you wanted to trim it every week or so.

Crypts would be a good choice, just one to start, but mabye eventually more, the main thing is to let your plants get established before you get too many in there. If you get one green or brown crypt, and let it grow for a while (2-4 weeks) if its still healthy then mabye you can add something else to your tank.

Theres lots of different plants that will grow in a low light situation, but with low light, you have to have more patience, because photosynthesis is slower.

Hope this helps!
