Plants Dying, Fish Acting Weird

Hi guys,

So I've had these fish and plants since January. They've been fine and my plants have been growing extremely well until this week. I did move a month ago and relocated my aquarium to my new place, but it appeared that the transition went well. Wanting to keep most of the water so that the fish wouldn't be shocked, I transported about 12-15 gallons of the original water in water jugs, Ziplock bags and a 5 gallon trash bag. All were clean and rinsed before putting the aquarium water in them. Anyway, after three weeks everything appeared great, water clear and the fish and plants looked good. But on Tuesday, I noticed that my Anibus plant, which had grown considerably since I purchased it in January, began browning. Quickly, within a day most of the leaves turned brown. I cut the brown leaves off and then noticed that my Angel fish has a white film over his right eye and that my Moneywart plant was browning as well. Friday morning the rest of the fish started behaving abnormally, the plants started looking worse, and the Angel's other eye is starting to become filmy too.

I only have a pH test kit and checked that the water pH is fine. No new plants nor fish have been introduced, and the fish flakes are the same. No cleaners nor other foreign chemicals, to my knowledge, have been used around the aquarium either.

Does anyone know how this could have helped and what I can do to save my aquarium?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you ahead of time.

A pH test is not enough to say that everything is ok. You need to invest in a full liquid testing kit and post your results so people can help you. Also what is your cleaning schedule? Water changes? Feeding? Tank stocking? Filter?

can tell whats wrong here just by the title nitrate is way to high :)

your tank is not cycled properly, read here

in the meantime do a major water change 80%, follewed by daily water changes 30%

you do not mention your filter or how you cycled your tank.

The brown film on your plant leaves is likely to be diatoms or brown algae which are common in new set ups. They will disappear in time. I cannot comment on the fish though.

Brown "film" wasn't mentioned. Just that the leaves turned brown, and the angel had a film over his eyes. I don't know what the problem is, but as fishyfeet mentioned, a huge water change is in order.

You mentioned how the old water was transported but what about the filter(s) and media? You didn't need to carry the old water with you at all, so long as the filter media was kept alive during the move. Please let us know more details.

It sounds like your Angel might be going blind, but im no expert. Have you checked your nitrate? what seems different in the other fish? have any fish died? how did you cycle your tank?

During the move, did you keep the sponges, etc., from the filter in water, or did it dry out?
