This may not be an appropriate place to post about plants... so if it isn't please let me know  But...

My tank is planted with a large amazon sword, a few off shoots which I pruned off and planted, and a few bunches of hydrophilia. They were looking great a few days ago, but today the leaves are looking brown on the hydrophilia, and the swords have brown spots on them. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm not sure if this is relevant or not, but the tank is cycleing right now. I haven't added any aquarium plant foods to the tank. I'm also just using a regular 36" flourecent aquarium bulb... not a plant bulb as the tank sits between 2 windows that never allow direct sunlight (I live in an old brewery that they converted to flats so the wall is over a foot thick with the windows recessed and a huge locust tree outside so it allows light in but not enough that it effects the temp). I'm not using a CO2 infuser or anything like that.

Thanks :D

The plants will need some kind of fertiliser to provide them with all the nessesary minerals that they need to grow properly,i personally use the aquarium pharmaceuticals LEAF ZONE a liquid plant food that is added weekly and root tabs by the same company that are replaced monthly.
What volume is the tank (ie 30gallon?)? To grow plants succesfully it is best to try and have at least 2 watts of light per gallon of water,3 or 4 in deeper tanks,Fitting reflectors may also help by directing the light downwards.

It does sound like they might not be getting enough light :/

...as cfc says 2W/g - but also how long are the lights on for? -

With new cuttings its often a good idea to float them for a few days to encourage root growth
