Plants And Nitrates

Hello

My tap water has a nitrate reading of around 25ppm, i recently switched from plastic plants to fully planted and noticed my tank water is now at under 5ppm nitrate.

Do plants consume nitrate, or is it something else in my tank reducing it?

Yes plants consume nitrate.

they get rid of some of the nitrates, thats why it is usually recomended that you cycle with no live plants at all so you dont get different readings because of them
