Plants And Cories And You

Not an expert but I understood that all corries needed a sand substrate from which they filter out their food although they can manage with gravel but it tends to wear down their barbles (is that the right word?). This would suggest that a bit of clear space between the plants would be helpful. That said my C. Sterbai do take food that has fallen on leaves with no problem once they have finished sifting across the sand.

Sand would be much better than gravel, but gravel is bearable. I picked up 6 sterbai today for my 60L gravel tank knowing that I'd be upgrading to a 120L sand tank within a few weeks. I can already see why they'd prefer sand.

1. Food would stay on the top.
2. Searching between gravel is awkward for them, even if it is only pea gravel, I kind've feel sorry for them.

And yes they would like plants, it would give them shade and cover.

Barbles is the right word :).
