Peeps, I made the jump to a planted tank about 6 months back. I picked Wisteria cuz it seemed easy to propagate and grow.... my plants are a little out of control and I think that my giant danios are getting crowded and starting to nip. Question.. how far back would you trim these plants? Looking for some expert gardeners out there!

I think that looks fine personally. I would only trim when it starts bending at the top of the tank. I try to keep taller plants out of the foreground and at least part of the tank to leave space for the fish. But I think around 30-40 percent of the tank with plants is fine. Fish like the plants. If they are nipping it could be because you only have a few in a small tank. In my experience they do better with more of them in a larger tank. It's not really the plants that are the issue from my perspective.

cool .... I will keep that in mind..... the nipping danio fins are more red than the others. I will probably trim the front plants down a bit.

I also think your tank looks fine. You can trim them shorter to allow more shoots to grow from the stem for a denser look and put the trimmings in the gravel for more plants. Definitely keep the stems up front shorter than the ones in the back. Allowing them to get thicker may help the nipping problem if the fish have more hiding places and more sections of tank.

No trimming except for the above tips, it looks nice.

What size tank, and how many danios?

What you want to do is cut 6"-8" off the top and replant the stem and perhaps discard or leave the base portion. If you just trim, water wisteria tends to fail.

Psht.....that's NOTHING for water wisteria......that stuff grows like a weed, and if you let it, will completely take over the tank. I got rid of mine. Stuff just becomes thick stalks in the tank as you trim away growth. Thick stems and.roots. Got tired of it.

Now I am getting the same thing from Java Ferns.......things grow and renew like crazy in the right water conditions...and by right conditions I mean wet.
