hello everyone,

i'm setting up a new 20 u.s. gallon / 17 u.k. gallon / 76 litre planted aquarium. :) it has 1.7 wpg and i'll be adding co2 and seachem flourish. my ph is 7, my kh 4, and my gh is about 6. with this ph and kh, do i need the co2? i am currently in the process of fishless cycling. the aquarium will be a coldwater enviroment, housing my fantail goldfish and maybe a few ghost shrimp. i realize the risk i'm taking with a goldfish and plants. i'd say milkshake, my goldfish, is rather peaceful. he doesn't really seem like the type to wipe out an entire tank full of plants, but i guess i'll just have to see about that. ;)

my dilemma is that i can't decide on which plants to get. from what i've read, java fern, java moss, vallisneria, anubias, hygrophilla, and sword plants are the best bets to have when it comes to goldfish. the plants i sort of have in mind are anubias nana, hygrophila polysperma, hygrophila difformis, ludwigia repens, lysimachia nummularia 'aurea', and cryptocoryne beckettii. the top view of my tank looks like this with the driftwood i have:

feel free to mess around with the image and create a layout or something; i am open to any and all suggestions. :)

Im not sure but you might have trouble growing plants in cooler water as most a from tropical areas.

agreed you don't have much choice when it comes to cold water.. but tiger lotus grows in cool water.

well, i'm planning to keep the temperature around 68-degrees F / 20-degrees C, but the temperature in my other tank tends to be in the low 70s F / 20s C. i'm pretty sure a lot of plants can grow in these temperatures, even though the growth may be a bit slower (right?). all the plants i listed can grow in at least a minimum of 68-degrees F / 20-degrees C water, with the exception f the hygrophilia difformis; but like i said, my water temperature is usually in the low 70s F / 20s C, so i think it should be ok.
