ok ive kept fish(including plecs) for a while now and ive decided i would like to begin breeding and tbh zebras are the only things which intrest me so, can any one point me in the right direction of where to go with this project,

i dont want to get zebras straight away i want to get the tank perfect first so i need to know at what ph the thrive at, perfect temp, do they like plants how many caves should buy/make what substrate do they prefer min size for breeding tank,

the zebras will have the tank to them selves and i need to know how to encourage breeding nd what to do when i have fry, i have tried google and can only find basic stuff on them figured i might aswell try here

:good:

To be honest mate, if you have never bred any fish before (common Livebearers dont count :D) I would suggest trying with something like brsitlenose plec, as Zebras costs hundreds, and it could be a lot of money down the pan if your not cut out for breeding.

If you want to breed zebras you could practice with other fish that are in the same family because they are very similar i think, like the queen arabesque pleco

sounds like you are doing the same thing we did.

We bought 5 L129's Columbian zebras - Set the tank up for them (as it would be for the L046's) and set about waiting for them to grow up :)
In the mean time a good 'deal' came up and we got 5 zerbas - The L129s moved out and the 046s moved in.

Well... the L129s are now mature and showing signs of breeding (trapping and sharing caves etc) and If I had the time now I'm pretty sure they would breed.
But with the shed closing down and our new child taking up a lot of our time, I havent tried. The L046s are also showing signs and tonight I'll be doing a large water change to lower the temp and freshen it up for them.

If your interested, The L129's are for sale (as the guy that wanted them hasnt come up with the funds yet)
PM me if you would like more info ;)

I would personally go with the advice already given. Zebra's aren't as hard to breed as some people would like you to think but they aren't beginner fish either. Try your hand at the bn's or Simthrc's L129's which would be my personal choice out of the two.

However and in the meantime, in order to learn more about zebras try here: www.zebrapleco.com
