I am in the process of looking for a bigger tank I wish to keep the following stock in there the 2 sizes I am looking at ar 3x3x2 130Gal or a 4x2x2 100gal.

My stock plans are as follows

4 or 5 Scribbled Anthias
1 x cole tang
2 x Percs
2 x mandarin
1 x flymo blenny
1 x pygmy Cherub Angel
1 x purple firefish

Would these fit in the 4 x 2 x 2 reef tank without being over stocked or do I need a bigger tank to home these?

Or is there a tool I can work out stock levels on?

which ever tank I have will be sumped

I would like to add 2 fairy wrasse at some stage but think I might be pushing my luck

My stock plans are as follows

4 or 5 Scribbled Anthias
4 inches each x 5 = 16 inchs

It would be better to have either 3 or 5, 1 male and two/four females

1 x cole tang

Kole Tang I think you mean
7 inch

2 x Percs
6 inches

2 x mandarin
5 inches

1 x flymo blenny
2.5 inches

1 x pygmy Cherub Angel
2.5 inches

1 x purple firefish
2.5 inches

so approx. 41.5 inches of fish

Would these fit in the 4 x 2 x 2 reef tank without being over stocked or do I need a bigger tank to home these?

its not an exact science as I am sure you already know - it depends alot on your system, running a skimmer, rowa, chaeto, feeding, sump, surface agitation etc

Or is there a tool I can work out stock levels on?
the old rule is 1 inch of fish for every 4/5 gallons in a reef

which ever tank I have will be sumped

Well that will add to the water volume, how big a sump?

Remember the above is a very loose guideline and don't forget to calculate after displacement of rock!

I would like to add 2 fairy wrasse at some stage but think I might be pushing my luck

so another 6 inches

if we round it up comes to about 50 inches of fish, so we are looking for a a water volume of at least 200 gallons. Or 168 if you go with three scribbles.

So a display tank of 130 gallons (590 litres), will need approx 65 k of rock with with 1k displacing 1 litre = 525 litres (115 gallons). Means you will need a sump of approx = 85 gallons or with three scribbles slightly less (but remember you will also have displacement in the sump, so that will have to be worked out!! But with good husbandry, as I am sure you know you can push the boundaries.

Phew, ive got a headache now - you are going to have so much fun planning :good: But my thought is it's do-able with the 130 gallon and a nice sized sump

Hehe thanks Seffie just to confuse maters more might look at a 48 x 30 x 24 sump would be at a guess 40 x 18 x 18. So DT would be rougly 125 Gallons and Sump 50 gallons most prob 30 gallons in use.

I will be looking at the MCE 600 as a skimmer, Calcium reactor carbon\phosphate reactor if my budget allows hopefully a MP20 vortech for flow.

The stock would be very slow build up wallet allowing I want to add another Mandy (female) so mine has some company ;) same goes for the perc`s.

Spending a little time investigating fluidised sand reactor and DSBs I just want to make sure that I can fit the fish into the tank before buying it else there will be another upgrade on the horizon.

Light wise I am debating a T5 / LED hybrid build as pure LED will be v expensive.

Its a shame we cannot use plasma bulbs yet these look awesome and more effcient than LEDs !!!

i would oversize the skimmer a bit more than that if i were you.

nice fish list btw...kole tang is one of my faves.

id look into an auto feeder aswel for those anthias.
