Well, I just got another 30 gal. tank, and I and deciding what to put in it.
I was thinkingof Cichlids at first, but now I am leaning towards this setup:
4-5 Silver Dollars
2 Gourami
4-5 catfish cory's

I have bala sharks in my other tank and they are very skittish, whenever I walk by the tank they zip off and hide. I hate doing this, because I feel giuilty for sacring them.

I have read that silver dollars are the same way. If so I will look in another direction. Are they skittish fish? Also what do you think of my plans?

ive been to a fair few lfs in my area....and they all have large display tanks with fully grown silver dollars....and they arent skittish at all....they even come over to see u and push up right against the glass

Silver dollars are only skittish if they are kept alone, or so I've heard. They should be more secure in a group, as is the case with other shoaling fish. But don't they grow very big? As in too big for a 30 gal?

Oh, and the cories would be happier if there's at least 6 of them.

hi chaos. i myself have silver dollars and all i can really say about them is WOW WHAT AN AMAZING FISH. as far as them being skittish, when you introduce them into the tank give them at least 2weeks to acclimate and feel recognized as part of the tanks "family". i know people say to keep them in groups of 4-5 but i keep them in three and not only have the been friendly and loving to themselves, but fin is red as an apple and couldn't be more healthy. if you feel you would like a group of 4-5 go ahead, nothing is stopping you..... except. your 30 gallon is not too small for silver dollars as long as you dont put in 5-6. 3-4 would be the magic number. they do get quit big so keep that in mind when purchasing your other fish. hope this helps any and good luck ;)
