Common usage of the term plakat is to refer to the short fin B. Splendens.

Actually, plakat means "biting fish", "pla" is fish in Thai while "kat" means bite in Thai. In english we call them fighting fish rather than biting fish. So all B. Splendens are plakats.

The short fins are called Plakat Morh
The long fins are called Plakat Cheen

In the Philippine's Plakat Morh are also often referred to as "Cambodians", although cambodians really refers to a color scheme rather than fin type.

There are four basic body types for Plakat Morh:

1. Channa Striata Bloch Form Type - Snake Fish Head and Long Body

2. Anabas Testudineus Form Type - Short Head and Short Body

3. Chitala Ornata Form Type - Sharp Curve Mouth and Long Body

4. Hybrid Type - A combination of any of the foregoing.

Can you post pics of the different body types for Plakat Morh? If you do this, and possibly add a little more info, I would think this would be a good candidate for the land of the pinned?

Nice information.
:)

:*) Oh, I just read this stuff somewhere awhile back and save the info in my PC. Forgot to save the URL. Will try to look for it again.

Honestly, I really would not be able to tell one apart from the other.

Here is the URL:

PlakatThai

The pics on it are not so good. Maybe we can provide better pic's?
