Ok, stupid question time (as always). To try and defend this next question, logically, it seems fine, but mentally, reassurance is required (or told im wrong.)

Can I mount the heater on the side of the tank instead of the back?

Told you it was a stupid question... i believe in check twice, do it once.

You can mount your heater anywhere you want, but the best place is near the intake or out take of your filter so you'll constantly have the warmer water mixing through the water of the tank.

Thank you, i'll mount it on the same side as the filter in that case. I've got a thermo on both sides anyway to help ensure constant temp throughout.

I agree. As long as you have water moving past the heater it should be fine.

Yeah it seems more logical to put it where it can spread through by it self. But I have to put it in a specific area because the hood was meant to put the heater on the right because thats the only place where a hole is.

a thermometer won't ensure constant temp....it'll only provide a reading to show whether you have it ;)

it was "help" ensure - ie provide readings across a range of the tank instead of just one area.
