I use a dual 50/50 pc 10,000K/actinic coralife fixture. the 10,000k's are 55W a peice. and this is on a typ 55G tank (22" deep I think).

Do you think zoos would function on any level of the tank or would they need to be near the top for higher light. i know they are not the most light needy corals but I don't want them to be light deficient if I put them on the bottom substrate. I have some mushroom polyps that have seeded at the bottom of my rock pile so I assume it's getting enough light for things to grow...

they should be ok anywhere in the tank. However, if you find they start fading in colour then move them higher up. You can also increase the photoperiod and have the lights on for up to 16hours per day.

Zoas are hard to kill so you shouldn't have problems that way. Colin has the right idea here, the trouble with low lighting will be decreased color and slower growth, corrected by moving them up.
