We have just got 3 lovely pitbull plecs

I'm just curious as to what I should be feeding them, the planet catfish article says mainly vegetable matter, but they don't seem interested in cucumber or the algea wafers I've got.

Could it be that they are still settling in and not hungry yet?

The algae wafers I've got aren't just vegetable matter, they contain fish protien too, is this going to be an issue, should I try to find some purely vegetatian ones for them?

And as promised pics of the plecs (Or at least the 2 that were close enough to the glass that I could get close ups)

It took my BN plecs a while before they found their food but they soon do. The wafers you have should be ok.

And of course they might still be settling in and checking out their surroundings before they think about eating.

They have found the wafers now :)

I'll try some more cucumber later on this week, the guppies picked at the last chunk but the plecs didn't seem interested.

I'm having a high pH issue at the moment so it could be that they're not at their happiest anyway.

At least 2 of them seem content (raised dorsal fin) and one of them has already decided it likes the pebbles, he's the dark one that I couldn't get photos of, he's the same as the pale one above but the colours are reversed, they look so cute when they're next to each other

I soak it in boiling water for about an hour first then attach to my cucumber / vegetable clip that has a suction cup to stick to the tank. BN's love it!

EDIT sorry forgot to mention to slice it first. I was told not to boil it or anything as it can get too soggy.

I've tried normal potato but do find it does go soggy if boiled..

I might try again..

turns out we ate all our sweet potato tonight anyway

Unfortunately the one in the first pic passed away last night. He hadn't been too happy since he'd been shocked by some bubbles (I'm begining to wonder if they may have been anerobically tampered with even though I've been really careful with turning the sand lots) and I hadn't seen him eat in the 3 days we had him. :-(

Either that or he didn't like the high pH (which has dropped to 7.2 overnight, it was 8 when I tested it before bed, I had topped it up at dinner time with filtered water that was at 7 exactly, but it wasn't more than a few litres, and didn't make an instantaneous difference) after having come from water that was 6 or below. We accliamatised them all carefully over a few hours but it may not have been enough :-(

On the plus side the other 2 were playing king-of-the-castle on the 3 round stones I've got in the tank, taking it in turns to sit on the tall one before jumping off and swimming round the bottom. Both of them are eating happily too, I'm just waiting for them to discover cucumber, the guppies seem to be the only ones eating it at the moment!
