Piranhas!

I'm thinking about buying a large tank like a 50-70 gallon tank and putting a couple of Red Bellied Piranhas in there. Could someone give me some info about these guys? If anyone has some experience with them, lemme know. B)

i have one in a 30 gallon tank. they are super agresive, he shares the tank with a turtle... and lets just say there isnt much left of the turtle. he bite off the turtles legs and tail.

where can you get piranhas? i want a few that would be awesome. i have a 55gal im restocking and id like to put a few in there...

red belly piranhas can be pretty aggressive in schools, typically if you single them out to there own tank they are very shy. i have one red belly in a tank, he tends to hide behind my castle. i've even pet him trying to get him used to my hand being in the tank and i havent been bitten once. he tends to eat just feeders but they can be plant eaters too. they are very colorful at young ages but get uglier as time goes on. the real nasty ones are the black piranahas. they have a real nasty disposition no matter what situation. as far as finding them you need to find out if they are outlawed where your from. a pet store won't sell them if they are illegal.

My brother had one and though it might have been a weirdo fish, I'll tell you what I learned. He later got others, so I'll tell you what he told me about them too

1. Get slow moving feeder fish, we put minnows in the tank and he ended up smashing his face into the glass trying to catch them. And his face stayed that way.

2. Get a lid that's tight and fits. That's how this one died, he decided to take up flying.

3. They won't bite your hand unless they haven't been fed for a while. So feed them BEFORE you stick your hand in the tank (and not during!!! Trust me!)

4. Make sure you don't tell any crazy friends that you have them, or you might end up finding them feeding it something that you really didn't want to see them eat. (Like a frog I love froggies!)

I too was thinking of buying some couldnt make up my mind on what, im still somewhat deciding, im thinking of going with black piranha, theyre real good looking fish just cant seem to find if they can be in groups, keep finding people saying they can then others say they can

dont put black piranha in groups they will kill each other the only piranha that can go in a group is red belly

you can put if you have a 50 you can put 3 in there if you have a 75 you can put four in there the rule is anywhere between 15-20 gallons per fish they wont do to to much they kind of hover the gold piranha i have swims alot they are hardy fish just feed them before sticking your hands in the tank

Piranhas are basically just big mean tetras with teeth to shred things apart with, about the turtle thing though, your sick
