My understanding from one of the members of our fish club, who got hers as a hand-off from another fishkeeper, is that they are illegal in the U.S. That said, she did say that her guy is very shy and she can pet him, if he feels like letting her. She has to be able to read his mood. She puts deformed fry in there and he waits til they're a certain size, then he'll eat them. But until then, he doesn't even look at them. Of course, she feeds him food regularly, as well. I don't think she'd try to have another one when this one is gone, though, because he does have to be alone. Again, this is all second-hand info. Not from my own personal experience. Hope it helps.[/quote]
It is shy because it is alone. Piranhas are social fish and need to be kept in groups to feel secure.
Dont keep anything with piranhas. It may work but if the fish shows a hint of illness or weakness, the piranhas will see this and beginto attack
