Anyone out there have any pics, or any ideas how to make the ideal tank set-up for Piranhas that they would wish to share with me and my 6 baby Red Bellies?

If you want them to grow to full size, they need 20 gallons each, making it about a 120 gallon tank. This is a very good piranha message board if you have other questions. www.piranha-fury.com/forum/pfury/index.php

Err...sorry you can't click on that link but..you know just copy and paste it..

The main thing with pirahna is keeping the tank darkened, a dark substrate, peat filtration and loads of bogwood along with shaded lighting (possibly from floating plants) will get you off in the right direction.

The main thing with pirahna in my experience is like cfc said make it darkish and have lots of bogwood, always make sure what i call a cave is there at all times so they can go and feel safe when they feel threatened .
if they are in there i never had any trouble while cleaning mine out i also had a common plec in with mine to keep things clean.
but be very aware that when they are big things get messy
good luck

Does anyone know where to get cheap bogwood from then?

I assume they are about the size of quarters.......maybe a little larger???

I would think about M A Y B E getting rid of 2 and just keeping 4 in a 30.....plus you could get by with a 90 gallon or maybe even a 75 gallon depending on the temperment of the fish as they get older......instead of having to "most likely" part with a couple or more when they are older and you are more apt. to keep them because of being attached. Plus a 120 gallon......WOAH, that's a monster tank!!

JMHO!!!!

They are extremely small and very happy in the 3ft'er at the moment.
I will either be getting a larger (120+) tank for them when they reach the size I have to move them, or putting them each in their own 3ft tank - depends on how much room I can create, and how much my wife agrees to.

I know that where we bought them from, they where all together - about 300 of them, and they gradually killed each other and made a mess of each other.

They ain't even touched each other in this tank.

I have already moved them from one tank as they outgrew it.

I have seen a 8ft tank for £160 odd - it's just where to put it :)

Does anyone know where I can get bogwood from in the uk?

I've not found anywhere to get really cheap bogwood, but the cheapest I've found is pets at home. I hate to say it, it's just where I've seen it cheaper!!!!!
