Its very difficult, but around breeding season females may develop a deep red almost maroon color around the neck/chest. Aggression and appetite seems to increase also during the breeding season for females. Males also become more aggressive and appetite increases as well, so uless the female displays the red coloration there is almost no way to visually sex.
