I have noticed i have two bulk head holes in my tank and im finding it hard finding the screw in things to screw into them. I have never ever had a sump or had bulk heads on any of my tanks before but my new tank has a sump and bulk heads. Im just wondering are there any online shops that sell them ?? My local diy shop sells the pipe work but not the screw in bit that screws into the hole.

I am guessing this is one of them ?

Ok so i have measured my bulk head hole and its 6cm from side to side which is 60mm. I have gone to my local diy shop and they gave me a 1/2 bulkhead which is way to lose. I have gone back there and they have told me that they do not do bulk heads that go up to that size.

Are there any standard fitting ones i can buy from some were ?? The holes was all ready drilled by the makers of the tank.

You will probably have to order some off line or see if the shop can special order them for you. Or possibly check other shops around town? As for what to look for online, try searching bulk head parts? Normally with enough luck you'll see the piece that you need. Also if you can find a slightly larger fitting you should be able to sand the outside down to fit into the hole.

Thanks for being the only person who is willing to help

I have been looking around on google and there was one which was 40mm And it has the max hole size is 60mm ( mine is 60mm ) i contacted them and was told that a 40mm would fit but i don't know how that is....

haha I'm sure there are plenty of other people on here willing to help but you have a specialized problem that not many of us have to deal with. I've no clue what a bulk head all needs to be operational lol. If your hole is 60mm and the hole on the piece your looking at is 40mm then i suspect that the outside diameter is 60mm which means it would fit.

Thank you for the link. Its a 6 x 2 x  2 tank. The tank was made with the 2 holes in so i thought they would be a started fitting..
I have measured the in side of the hole and measured 60mm and i have two of them next to each other...
I think ill have to buy that one from the link above and see if it will fit.

It does, of course, just to confuse, depend on which way around you install them though.

I connect tanks with the larger section facing into the tank. I'm aware that others don't and that one will only fit 1 way around.

From their site the outer flange on the next size down is 72mm, which may be big enough for you.

Personally, I silicone them in, I don't rely on the rubber. The rubber failing is just way too annoying.

Out of curiosity, what are your plans for pipework? Are you going to use both as outlets to try to get quieter flow or are you going to use one as a return?

Could i ask how a 72mm bulkhead would fit in a 60mm hole ??
I was planing on getting 2 bulkheads and then 2 pipes which would go into one pipe then into my sump. So both of them would be inlet's

Depends on what dimension that they're measuring. You want the flange to be wider than 60mm, otherwise you have nothing to seal. You need to know the diameter of the bit that goes through the hole, not the bit that goes on the edge.

Actually you do need that measurement, it needs to be bigger than 60.

Is there a reason why you're merging the pipes. It sounds like asking for trouble to me. The best reason for 2 inlets is to allow redundancy by having a option if one fails. If you merge them then you create a point of single catastrophic failure again.

Personally, given 2 inlets to the sump I would run one on an open pipe (well, with something over it to stop the fish going in, but not messed with and fully underwater if in a weir or just below the desired water level if not) and the other with a durso arrangement at the water surface fully open, then crank down the full syphon pipe until a small amount of flow goes down the second pipe. That way you get 1 pipe in full syphon, which you can prefilter to your hearts content and will run as a near silent full syphon and the other has minimal flow creating a very quiet trickle effect. If you hear gurgling then either a pump has slowed down and the syphon pipe is sucking air, or the syphon pipe is blocking up and you're getting a fair amount of flow in the durso. Overall if you hear noise you need maintenance, but it's aimed at silence otherwise.
