Hi all,
I was posting resently on a thread, when I had to go and find a cirtain site which I use quite often to link to in the thread. A small thought struck me then, what about having a pinned thread in every forum (Oddballs, New World cichlids ect) which people can post the url of a site that has helped them out, along with a small description of the site. So, along with the forums own species profiles, people can look up sites that others have found usefull for that fish.
However, there would need to be a bit of policing to check that the site is actually what people say it is, and not a spammed link, and it would make the thread cleaner if there was no chat in.

Any thoughts?

The SW section has the realm of knowledge and it even links to some other fora as well as good locations for information (both on and off line), and I think it is great. There are a couple of links in there that I quite often find myself looking back to.

I don't see why it couldn't work, especially in some of the more specialised fora.

As long as it wasnt posts to general sites, eg "for information on this fish look here", because a lot of the time you'll find there are perfectly competent and reasonable people on TFF.

But one persons opinion, especially with with with intelligence, is unlikely to be the same as anyone elces, so Id say the more opinions on a fish the better. However, other sites have species profiles, which we would have to remove as we have our own species profiles for most things.
These are a couple of sites that I find myself using quite a bit which would be along the lines of the sort of stuff I (are probably you) would like pinned (just ignore the fact that its on apple snails).

I'll vote for MFK.
Read the General Rules:

No promoting of other competing sites either in the forum, chat room or private message system. In the event of recieving such spam messages, please report the incedent to a member of the moderating team.

Posting to other forums wouldn't be so bad in an information section (the SW one references Reef Central which is an absolute mine of information - if you can find it). I would have issue with recommending one so full of idiots who like insufficient living quarters and bad dietary habits as MFK however.

I'll vote for MFK.

Ya i dont think its a good idea

I think this perticular thread is becoming a showcase of the reasons this idea may not work, recommending people look to what can be described as a primative, backward forum where people still think feeding golfish to predators is "natural", and posts that add absolutly nothing to the thread at all!

No, this particular thread is just showing why it would need some control and occasional minding from a mod/admin. As well as forum links (which should be the exception, not the rule) the SW Realm of Knowledge thread lists the better books and websites with information, such as Rob Fenner's book, Scott Michael's series, the amazing WWM site and links to aquarium chemistry articles by Dr Randy Holmes-Farley.
