well they are always hiding under a log so i cant ever feed them

I dont even know if they are eating. Cause they never come out when the light is on

I am always amazed at the speed in which fish grow at, especially the predatory species of catfish. You may find that if they start to feed in earnest you can expect a noticable growth rate inside a month, probably reaching 4" inside of 5-6 months. How long have you had these guys for? they may just be settling in yet.
It may be worth noting that they do eat a lot at night, especially sleeping tetras.................
