i no this might be in the place but i want to no what you feed a pike because ive heard and seen i books that you can keep them in tanks (but i guess they would have to be in massive tanks and alone because they are nasty) and i no from fishing you use imatations or dead/alive bate to catch them, so wat do u use to feed them?

i would excpect you would feed them meat an fish an stuff but i might be wrong
WOW that would bbe awesome if you had a pike

they grow very large and you would not be able to keep it in a tank more like in a pond where there is no other pikes as female pikes are territorial and will kill any other pikes if there is no space

Esox lucius (pike) is a predator and would need to be weaned onto foods like lancefish I'd imagine. I certainly wouldn't put any tank mates with any, but, it can be done I think. As they're ambush predators I'd certainly add lots of bogwood and eavily plant the tank also.

Food-wise, any smaller fish will probably be taken (think what pike eat in the wild: fish like roach, perch, chub and even smaller pike!)... pike take 'deadbaits' in the wild too - but I don't know if they would in captivity.... larger pike are 'sit and ambush' feeders whereas smaller 'jack' pike will stalk and chase down their dinner (when fishing, I've been reeling in perch, only to have them 'ambushed' by jack pike before reaching the bank)... you'd need a large, heavily planted tank...

I've caught the Northern Pike in Lake Superior and other smaller lakes using dead bait-meaning chunks of dead fish-any old kind- and also minnows. They'll strike at about anything if they are hungry enough in cluding lures, and spawn bags. I caught one when I went ice fishing out on the lake that was slightly over 2 feet long. You'd always know when they were around as other nibbles on the line would go quiet. The smaller fishes give them a large berth. The guy whose ice fishing shack we used spear fished for them through a hole in the ice. He used dead fish as a drop bait then sat and waited. Honestly I think any large game fish like the pike belongs out in the wild. It seems cruel to keep them locked up in a tank when they need lots of room to swim around. You couldn't really put them in a community tank since they'd eat up the others. It's just their nature. I did catch and release when I fished except the ice fishing incident which caused me to not do that anymore....but that's another story. Maybe just get out in the wild and go fishing for them, appreciate their unique beauty then let them go.

... stuff it and stick it on the wall in a glass fronted case...

Awsome fish, I think you can feed them minows (Shinners, which are really are about 3-5 inches), and I bet you can have that pike with a large mouth bass or other basses.I bet it's not as aggresive as you think it is.

Hey i have a good bit of experience with these, i have kept quite a few over the years im from PA, and i now have a tiger musky(juvenile) 8 inches long, feed him feeder goldfish and even minnows you catch in traps he'll do just fine. i have mine in a 75 gallon tank with 3 pumpkinseeds, a large pleco, a 7 inch bullhead, 3 9 inch perch, and a 7 inch walleye

Oh yeah and whatever you do do not keep him with any large bluegill, pumpkinseeds, or rock bass. even medium size arent ok they will shred his fins to bits
