can anybody tell me any more about the pignose puffer, i have searched them on here but to no real luck. i have two waiting for me in the lfs until i clear the tank for them. any info you could tell me would be great, the only thing of use i found is that they are one of the most aggressive puffer spiecies. also what would it eat, the same as other puffers? krill, cockle prawn, things in shells?

Thanks in advance

Tom

Search for this fish via it's scientific name, Tetraodon suvattii, and you'll find lots of stuff. It's a small (12 cm) fairly hardy freshwater species from Southeast Asia, specifically the Mekong river system. It isn't especially aggressive, and in fact is one of the few species that has been bred in captivity. So while not a community fish by any means, it isn't as psychotic as, say, Tetraodon lineatus.

Wild fish feed on fish, so a diet that contains things like whitebait or lancefish would be sensible. Mussels are good, but they contain a lot of thiaminase, as do shrimp, so should be used in moderation. Healthier (thiaminase-free) foods would include earthworms, cockles and squid.

Basic care is much like any other riverine puffer: moderate temperature, lots of water movement, plenty of oxygen, and good water quality.

Cheers, Neale

I know this thread is old but has anyone any experience with them?

I've been offered one and of course it would be a single species only tank.

There seems to be lots of Youtube videos of them but I don't wish to see live feeding. I've read a few bits but I cannot find any information from someone who has ever kept one.

Thanks.
