i am thinking of adding a couple of pictus catfish in with my oscar (keith)

i have always liked these cats but was wondering if they would be safe in a 5x2x2 with a 12 inch oscar......

i know they are very fast and active but i could do with a few cats to clear the substrate of my messy cichlid

pictus cats are fast, but your oscar may catch them. they like to be kept in groups of 4 or more and get 4 inches long. They will also eat smaller fish, but that probably wont matter because oscars cant be kept with small fish! other than that, pictus cats are really active, cool fish. They may get hurt if you have any fast, aggressive fish. Oh, what are you feeding your oscar? Hope this info helps!

I believe they would be ok, they inhabbit different areas of the tank and feed in different manners. so as long as you cater to each species needs i think you will have a great experience. Just make sure you fallow crazy's advice on the number of pictus to get, not only do they like the group more than being alone, but a group of fish looks like less of a meal than just one to the oscar.

tbh I'd go with pimelodus blochii, they get to 11" (but 8" is more the norm) and are much chunkier and quicker growing than Pictus

I have two pictus cats and they are indeed fast swimmers mainly bottom dwellers but I have never owned such a big oscar i suppose it depends on how aggresive he is towards other fish i have a 4inch Jack but he is soft as putty.
