my pictus catfish is swimming weakly at the surface of the water in my tank. I've been treating for ich for the past few days, because my mollies and rainbowfish were itching themselves on my plants and some of them had white spots on their fins. I've been using ick clear by jungle (active ingredients: victoria [malachite] green and acriflavine). My pictus cat has never shown any signs of poor health for the few weeks ive had him, and had shown no signs of ich, and was fine until tonight when i got home from work. This is the third day of ich treatment, ive been using a 3/4 dose because it said to use less for weak fish or scaleless fish. Ive been doing 25% water changes before each treatment and removed my carbon before starting.

QUICK EDIT: my pictus cat normally swims powerfully and energetically around the base of my heater and between all of my ornaments and plants, and goes absolutely nuts when i feed the other fish as he darts around looking for scraps and bottomfeeder wafers... im concerned because now hes at the surface swimming slowly and barely moving away when i move the net towards him.

here are my water params:
NH3: 0ppm
NO2: 0 ppm
NO3: <5 ppm
hardness: not really sure... but i know its relatively soft
pH: 7.8

for the tap water:
nitrogenous wastes: 0 ppm for all
pH: 7.8

(i have well water - there are no additives except for a water softener that doesn't work particularly well - there is no chlorine but i still use prime with each water change - as much as it recommends)

i have had problems before with mollies dying, but all of my other fish have been fine for the most part until i got ich (i think it came from the rainbowfish... i have now invested in a quarantine tank)

anyway, i need to know if i should stop treatment and replace my carbon filter and do a massive water change to try to save my pictus cat. I am very willing to transfer him to a different tank to treat my other fish if it means he will survive, although at this immediate point in time that is not an option. If his condition does not sound serious to those among you who know better than i do, then i will continue treatment as i have been doing (none of my other fish are doing poorly - in fact, the ich is most definitely clearing up :) )

any help or advice is appreciated

You need to issolate him on his own if he dosn't have whitespot, you can transfer whitespot to another tank if you're not careful.
Have you increased aeration in the tank as high temps and meds reduce 02 in the water.
Sounds like he's not coping with the med I would get him out of the tank.

Bless him R.I.P.
If a fish ever has whitespot you need to treat the whole tank,.
