This is our cat Oliver, he's a chocolate oriental and really thinks he owns the place and lets us share it with him!

This is him flat out sleeping on HIS sheepskin in front of the wood heater!

Hamsters are kind of like rats without tails. or small guinea pigs, right?

Edit> for typo's, I hate typo's!

Ahhhh he's beautiful ! and what a gorgeous coat he has. So smooth and shiny. How old is Oliver?
And where does he sleep? Is he your only cat? (sorry for all the questions!)
Aren't Orientals just the bestest?

Heather, I understand your concern, but I've kept hamsters and cats for many years without incident. I just keep my hamster cage in a room the cats don't have much access too. And even if the cats do go into the room with the hamster cage and sit and stare at the cage (they've never ever attacked a cage) the hamster just ignores them point blank. But guess all cats are different.

Thats good to know Bloo..Its my mum who always says "you cant keep a cat when you have hamsters" :sly:
Obviously you can though if they are kept in different rooms , Id be scared if the hamsters were out and the cat caught them through the wire in their cage with its claws...
If I got a kitten though it would grow up with them and probably wouldnt mind them.. :hey:
I love cats  x

He's 3 years old now. He sleeps wherever he chooses, during winter he like to hop in bed with us, under the doona with his head on my pillow! He's our only cat now, we used to have a Siamese (Mango) but unfortunately we had to re-home him as he loves chickens, he killed one of mine and a few belonging to the neighbours, made him very unpopular. Yeah, he's a great cat, loads different to your ordinary moggie.

They can if you don't clean their cage. But it took me all of 5 seconds to remove the little corner of wet sawdust on a daily basis. And around 10 minutes once a week to clean the cage. So as long as you look after them - they practically smell like a bed or roses !

The urine from the mice used to permeate everything in their enclosure! I used to soak the whole thing in a neutralising solution (was suposed to get rid of the smell) once a week for a few hours and then put it all out in the sun to dry, to try to get rid of the smell, but it never worked, so in the end I had to get rid of the mice.

Nah I dont think they smell.. I clean them out once a week and wash the cage out.. Just cleaned them out a few hours ago..So they smell lovely.. :flowers: x
