I bought it as a dwarf a year ago at 17cm its now 32cm so clearly not a dwarf with that growth rate!! Took it out to measure it and check it as I never see it move

That is one cool looking fish. I'm not familiar with the species. Where do they come from? What do you keep with it?
Bought as a dwarf but but not I have been informed that its a hybrid goonch. They come from cooler waters so ideally it would be in a cooler tank but its been in with my rays, tiger, gar, aro etc for a year
An inactive fish, theres a programme on river monsters on them as they can get very large , I will have to see how this one pans out

So you made your fish think it was going to suffocate just to take pictures… nice.

There's always one!!
It was being moved from a grow out to a larger tank
In reality not much longer than when you buy a fish from a shop and it gets moved from tank to bag. Wind your neck in!

Wow never heard nor saw one before .

You bought it online ?
I'd seen them on Ohio fish rescue and on river monsters and read there was a dwarf variant. Saw this advertised online by a company that sells a lot of predator and rare fish in the UK and ordered it to be delivered to me . I'm almost certain its not a dwarf variant as its gone from 17cm when I bought it to roughly 30cm now in a year. Cool fish though I rarely see it but when I do its a little treat

Wow really awesome fish one my dream fish too 😍😍
Thanks I'll share update pics from time to time. They are great statues rarely moving but the fastest thing on the planet when food is near their mouth

I saw that episode. People were wading in the river and something would suck them into the water. Jeremy Wade was trying to figure out what it was. He eliminated gharials and bull sharks. Then the crazy bastard goes snorkeling to see if he could find the creature that was pulling people into the water and murdering them. Turned out to be a giant goonch catfish. There was a crematorium upstream that was dumping human remains in the river. The goonch got a taste for people that way.
So whatever you do, do not feed your fish human remains!
