Went to this aquarium for the first time. Thought I would share some of the cool stuff I was able to snap reasonably clear photos of. Of course, I mainly went for the inverts.

Tree coral overload:

Pagurus policaris - this one was almost as big as Mr. Hairylegs! I had no idea they got that size.

that took about 100 years to load on my laptop. Got most of the pictures. Very good work, Donya. I got hungry when I saw the lobsters, though. I'm sorry, I like food.

Oh what a treat to come home to after work - thanks for taking the time Donya and behind my 'favourite' fish, those anthias

Incredible! I hope hubby doesn't see these or he'll start lobbying for a marine tank again!

wowser! i want a jelly now :)

Must say that it actually seems easier than commonly advertized. There's all this stuff on the web about how impossible it is, but the setup at the aquarium was incredibly straightforward. After some studying, it looks like these are the steps:
1. A giant bowl, cylinder, or a rectangle with either rounded edges or mesh to round the edges. Rectangles can be partitioned with mesh.
2. A source of live food like brine or bottled red zooplankton stuff ("cyclopeze"?) to feed a couple times per day depending on the species.
3. Either WCs relative to feeding frequency and what's fed (live = cleaner) or some sort of filtration attached to the partitioned area.
4. Slow water movement from a bubbler or a weak pump attached to a partition.
5. Remove any obvious jelly poo with turkey baster.

Of course, I won't be selling this as a foolproof method yet...I'll just say that whenever my father is in town and a beach trip happens, my number of tanks seems to increase.

Hahaha! The jellies in the NYC aquarium were beautiful. There's a calm about a jelly tank that's almost hypnotic. Until...
