Not long ago i got a new 125gal tank for my two goldfish (1 comet and 1 common, both around 6-7 inches lonbg each) and shortly after getting some mature filtration in the tank, i added 5 new goldfish over the following days after regular water quality testing.
The new goldfish are 3 comets (2 of which have shubunkin like coloring) and 2 commons, all of the new goldfish are around 3-4inches long each. The tank has settled down well and is very spacious (its 5ft long, 2ft wide and 2ft high) with 3 very large peices of driftwood in the tank, fine white silica sand and a few hardy plants.

I plan to keep the goldfish in this tank over the winter and perhaps spring until it is warm enough next year to release them into my 3000gal pond next year.
The tank has very good filtration and over the week or so i have had it, it has been absolutely spotless despite the goldfish being big waste producers, and so far water quality has remained exelant due to the mature filtration i put in there at the start.
I want to add a large common pleco to the tank (around 10inches long) as it is quite agressive towards my sailfin who resides in another 5ft long tank with it, i think the common pleco should be fine in the goldfish tank as the tank temp is fine for it (the temp never drops below 24 degrees it seems), the tank is clean and well-filtered, and the common pleco and goldfish have lived once together before in the past so i am sure they should be fine together now.

Does this tank set up sound ok for the goldfish? I will try and get pics of the tank soon :good: .

EDIT: got some pics of the tank today, here's a full tank shot;

The other new common which is mostly white and orange, its forehead appears to have more of a bump than the others, its probably from poor breeding or diet, however i didn't have the heart to take it back, so i'm keeping it :) ;

Hope you like the pics :thumbs: .

Love your fish, they look lovely.

Just to let you know that common plecs love the slime from goldies, so you will have to be careful.

Thanks, i will definately keep an eye on the common pleco then as i really do need to separate it from the sailfin as it is harrassing the sailfin a lot, particually at feeding time.

The smallest common is now in its own 125gal tank with 3 types of danios and some white cloud mountain minnows, i moved this one out first as it was getting picked on by both the sailfin and other other common- now it is on its own, it seems a lot happier and has been eating a lot more (as when it shared the sailfin and common pleco's tank, the other plecs hardly ever gave it a chance to eat even when there was plenty of food in the tank).

If the common harrasses the goldfish at all i will swap it with the smaller common and hopefully things will be ok, but i'm hoping the large common pleco will be ok with the goldfish- a long time ago they once shared the same old tank for a 3-4 week period of time and both the common pleco and goldfish existed together peacefully, so i am hoping they will do so this time too :thumbs: .
I will probably move the large common pleco into the goldfish tank within the next week and see how they do :thumbs: .

Tokis great tank and cute goldfish.
Does the sand get really mucked up with the goldfish.
Tokis ranchu are really cute you got to have ione in there lol.

Thanks Wilder, i'm not sure how much space there is for more fish as they and the common pleco are all big growing fish, however next year when the fish go in the pond, if the common pleco gets along with them in the tank now i may keep it as a goldfish tank- otherwise i will probably make it a platy tank :) .

Edit: oh, with the sand, it actually stays remarkably clean with the goldfish- the waste they produce just stays on the top and gets blown in the filters. I think sand is better for goldfish due to this as with gravel, the waste just gets trapped between it, but with fine sand you don't have this problem- the goldfish also seem to enjoy searching for sinking pelets in the sand, i'm sure they "play" with it too as they like to move piles of the stuff around the tank sometimes :) .
