does anyone know where i can get tiny lights, preferably blue, for a pico tank, so i can get i an idea how much one will cost.

it would have to be a clip on like http://www.squidoo.com/pico-reef

thanks

James

just done a bit of reasearch, and apparently 3 gal is a v good size for dwarf seahorses :)

sooooo, where do yu buy dwarf seahorses in the uk, ive seen loads in america

and that light dosnt need to be strong enough for corals then :)

right i was thinking taking some live rock from my main tank, and some of the sand, doing it quick so theres no die off.
then, keeping that tank, mabye 3-5 gallons as a pico tank, mabye with some zoas/hermit or something. i was thinking if i could add my green clown goby to that tank, if i dont get the seahorses (i found the Hippocampus zosterae and they were 100£ +, in us they were only 15$!). ive seen a GCG in a 3 gal pico somewhere on the internet, and the main reason id want to is to make sure hes feeding. If theres absolutly no way hell fit, ill keep him in orca, and just hope that hes eating.
so i still need to know what light to use-mabye for corals actualy and will the GCG be ok?

soz if theres loads of mistakes in that im tired :p

As you have found out dwarf seahorses cost a fortune in the UK and are extremely difficult to get hold of right now.

In theory the GCG could be ok in there but I personally wouldn't want to risk it. I would just keep it as an invert tank with some zoa's, etc and some smaller shrimp/crabs.

With regards to the lights you could look for a blue LED unit. How good are you are DIY? It would be very easy to make a cheap LED unit (not talking about a higher powered LED unit but one to supplement a main light source).

Yip DIY is the best way to go but could get pricey for such a small tank but you will be able to keep any coral in them what are the dimenssions of the tank?

There are some new wave light units on the market they seem to use an energy saving type bulb with half white and half blue will try and dig out some more info.

what sort of LEDs should i use? i do electronics for gcse and the school like store room thing has sooooooo much stuff, i know its a long shot, but with any luck they may have suitable LEDS i could "borrow"/ any other stuff i need :p
i could also use some equipmnt if its needed cause i dont have ammeters and stuff at home :)
