so i know most of you know that clowns love to eat snails as a snack. well, it just so happens that my 10 gallon baby tank has acquired curly typed snails, not like the usual ones that are slightly twisty (if you know what i'm talking about haha). so they laid eggs and i have TONS of them and i'm like ok no problem, my clowns will eat them! but it seems like they picked through the ones i put in my tank and left the other types alone. could it be that my clowns are picky and will only eat certain types of snails? this could be quite a problem! and would they maybe get hungry enough to eat them? (they are pigs an all)

Clown loaches will not eat all the snails, but will help control the population down. So even if you see snails in the tank, the loaches will eat it eventually. Your clowns have learned that anything falling in the tank is probably food, which is why they go after the snails that you put in the tank.

One thing I'm concerned about...is your clown loach in your 10 gallon tank? If so, I hope you plan to move it into a larger tank. Clown loaches will get to about 12" or so at adult size, but this will take a long time to get to this size. They will outgrow the 10 gallon tank rather quickly.

Another thing is, clown loaches prefer to be in groups of at least 5. Clowns are nervous fish, so seeing a small group of other clowns would make them feel at ease. Clowns will often split apart when they feel comfortable, but when they feel nervous, they gather together (safety in numbers).

sorry, no they're not in the 10 gallon that's just my baby guppy tank. i gathered as many snails as i could when cleaning it and put them in the tank with my clowns. i have them in a large tank and they're in a group of 4 and they seem very happy to me, always swimming out and about and almost dancing sometimes  i was just wondering if they preferred certain snails over others. unless some are just more challenging to get into the shell.

Although saying that I have one clown loach in a 55litre tank and he's now 4 years old and seems very happy. Hasn't grown much though (only about 2")
