I dont have a name for him yet. I got him about a week ago, along with a CT Female. she's very camera shy and all her pics came out a blur! I have to recharge my camera before attempting to take pics of her again. She's pinish white with beautiful purplish-red tail and fins :D

Im hoping one day I'll breed them, gotta do lots of research first! They're next to eachother, and the male hangs on that side of the tank, swimming alongside of the female. Its love!

any good sites I can look over about breeding?

Like what size tank is the absolute min?

if you goto teh sticky at the top of this forum there are lots of good sites already posted in that :)

5 gallon MINIMUM, 10 gallon's better. That way, you don't have to transfer for the fry for a good, long time, till they're no longer quite so delicate.

One thing you can do is just go to google.com and type in Betta breeding. That'll give you all kinds of sites and all kinds of varying opinions on how to go about the whole process.

thanks, I read that. I didnt realize a 40 gal tank is recommended and lots of jars. I dont have that kind of room. Too bad, it'd be fun to try at least once!

Don't need a 40 gallon, but do need a lot of jars to separate aggressive males and, sometimes, females.

well, you need a 40 gal as a grow-out tank if you have a large spawn, don't you?

Not necessarily. Largest tank I have is a 10 gallon.

You can split spawns up between tanks, or you can jar them starting at 6 weeks (when the males start to get snappy at each other). Or you can do both. Keep the females in the tanks, and jar the males.

How many fries in an average batch? so I can get an idea of how many jars and see how muhc space it would take up

You can get up to 500, thereabouts.

However, for a first spawn, the average tends to be under 100. This is due to a certain amount of learning that takes place on the part of the breeder with the first spawn.

I think it would be safe if you were ready for about 250.

really? dang! I was expecting the number to be around 50!

nope, I dont have that kind of room, or that many friends to give the fish to, lol

At least you realize that and are willing to NOT spawn just in case. :)
