i'm proud to say i'm a n00b, mostly because i actually am.

hey, my name's amber, i'm 14 years old and canadian (ehhhh) who found this forum purely for the sake of giving her fishies a good life.

at the moment i have a cycling 10 gallon tank with: three neons, three black neons, two silver-tippeds, four coolie loaches, and two male bettas. i bought a guppy breeder to seperate the two, since one was freezing his butt off in an unheated jar and the other was being a big pig and eating all the food.

first betta was donahue, and i'm positive he's either a blue cambodian or a turquoise pastel veiltail. mackenzie is a blue, lavender and red purebred muttbutt veiltail. donny is the pig, mack is the aggressor. until i get a 5 gallon tank they're stuck together, boohoo.

well, i guess that's my hello o_O

I think actually that betta would be better off "freezing his butt off in a jar" than being in the same tank as another betta. The stress could well kill him. I have a betta rescued from just such a situation and he was in a pretty sorry state when I got him - wouldn't come out from behind his plant for a week.

Welcome anyway. I'm sure you'll learn a lot if you hang around here. We've all made practically every mistake there is to make so you're in good company.

Hi there Betta Boyz and welcome to the forum.

I have a suggestion that might help you separate your two bettas for awhile.

Go to the deli or the deli department of a supermarket and ask for a gallon sized glass jar. They get mayonnaise or other things in them and when it is used up they throw them away. They will usually be happy to give you one if you ask for it. These days a lot of things come in plastic jars, but I know they still use glass, too. :*

After washing it and rinsing it very well, fill the jar with water from your aquarium and set the jar right down into the tank. You may have to raise it a bit by building the gravel up under it, but you will be able to adjust the height so that it fits nicely under the hood. Put one of your bettas in it. Because it is in the warm tank the water will be the same temperature.

When you clean the tank and change some of the water, be sure to give the jar the same attention. This should get you through until you can get another tank for your betta. You can then save the jar for use as an emergency hospital room which you would set up the same way. It works for me.
