Is Spud just a common Pleco? Looks kinda cholalate!

He was a gift from a guy down the street.

Actually i'd definatly say he's a sailfin, he lacks the lighter brown/grey stripes of a common plec, but since he is a sailfin he will grow to 2ft long...
